God Empowered You
Did
you know that God in His Word has given ways to empower His children? Did you
know that there are certain things you can do to make your answer to prayer,
good health, a peaceful life, and more? That's true!
Once
we are saved, we do not just sail through our days, hoping to catch God in a
good mood when He is ready to answer prayer or provide for our needs. His word
gives us many things we can do constantly to set Him in motion.
You go first
Usually,
God wants us to do the actions He outlined in His word before we are rewarded.
It gives us the ability to do what we need and rewards us once we do it.
Luke in the sixth chapter has other good examples of how God has endowed us. In verse 37, Jesus commands,
“Judge not and you shall not be judged. Condemn not and you shall not be condemned.”
Verse 38 continues in the same way, saying, “Give and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over; men shall give unto your bosom. For with the same measure you use, it shall be measured back to you.”
Let's
go first again. If we give, we will receive it. Whatever measure we give God is
the same measure he will use for us. We have control. We are taking the first
step.
I Peter 3: 7 sets another good example. “Husbands, likewise, dwell with [your wives] with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.”
When
a husband treats his wives the way God says they should, they give more
strength to their prayers. The husband's prayers do not hinder his actions. If
he treats his wife ungodly, prayer will be hindered. In this example, the
husband has power.
The pact promises
Open
your Bible to some verses where God declares the promises He is willing to give
to His children. For example, Deuteronomy 28 was filled with blessings. What
did you notice about how this section begins?
“Now it shall come to pass, IF you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God”
Then,
at the end of the blessing section of this chapter (verse 13), what do we see
again? "And the LORD shall make you ahead, and not a tail; thou shalt be
above it, and not under it, if thou obey the commandments of the LORD your
God."
If
we do what God entrusts to us, He will give us everything He has promised to
give. This is type of promise is called a covenant promise. It
works just like a lawyer draws up a contract between two people. One party
agrees to do a certain thing and - after this is done - the other participant
agrees to do something else. God gives us the ability to control certain
circumstances by offering us these promises or blessings.
As
you read your Bible this week, pay attention to the time that God gives us
opportunities. You can try to make a list or note verses in your Bible when you
find them so you can remember how to act and what to do to deliver the best of
God in your life. Many times our actions stand in the way of answers to
prayers. Is God waiting for you?
